The Lagos State Government has announced Monday, January 12, 2026, as the resumption date for the second term of the 2025/2026 academic session for all public and private schools across the state.
The directive, which also applies to government-owned technical colleges, was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday in line with the approved academic calendar for Lagos schools.
According to the government, schools are to commence full academic and administrative activities immediately upon resumption to ensure a smooth continuation of the school year.
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun, urged school owners and administrators to strictly comply with all approved public health and safety guidelines as students return.
He disclosed that government monitoring teams have been deployed to schools statewide to assess compliance with established safety standards, stressing that adherence to the guidelines is mandatory.
“All educational institutions must strictly comply with the required public health protocols as schools reopen,” the commissioner said, noting that the inspections are aimed at safeguarding students, teaching staff, and non-teaching personnel.
The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education also commended teachers, parents, and guardians for their continued cooperation, describing their support as crucial to maintaining stability in the education sector.
Parents and guardians were further advised to ensure that pupils and students are adequately prepared—academically and socially—for the new term.
The statement was signed by the Deputy Director of Public Affairs, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Kayode Sutton, and dated January 7, 2026.
