(LASU) has introduced a new grading formula for calculating aggregate scores for admission, as confirmed in the ongoing 2025/2026 admission screening registration.
This change affects how both JAMB and O’Level results are calculated, and all applicants are advised to take note and adjust their expectations accordingly.
NEW LASU AGGREGATE FORMULA:
✅ JAMB Score Calculation:
Multiply your JAMB score by 0.15
✅ O’LEVEL Calculation (Best 5 relevant subjects):
A1 = 8 points
B2 = 7 points
B3 = 6 points
C4 = 5 points
C5 = 4 points
C6 = 3 points
Add both your JAMB and O’Level points together to get your total aggregate score.
🧠 Example Calculation:
JAMB Score = 280 → 280 × 0.15 = 42
O’Level Grades: A1, B2, B3, C4, C5 = 8 + 7 + 6 + 5 + 4 = 30
Total Aggregate = 42 + 30 = 72%
⚠️ These changes were confirmed through LASU’s updated screening system. All candidates should now use this.
Reaction to Schools aggregating O’level Results:
Aggregating the O’level results is the root cause of special centres that birthed examination malpractices.
There are circumstances that may make one not to score high grades in O’level exams despite being brilliant.
Our test and measurements experts should know this.
However,I am of the opinion that post utme test on the basic O’level core subjects related to proposed course of study should still be an ideal way to separate the chafts from the grains.
As a teacher with over 30- years classroom experience, I have seen students with A’s and B’s in core subjects that know next to nothing courtesy of special centres that promote examination malpractices.
