The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) on Tuesday, 21st October 2025, celebrated the Last Day in Office and Post Service Champions of retiring and retired teaching and non teaching staff of public primary schools across the State.
The ceremony, held at the LASUBEB Multipurpose Hall, was organized to honour the commitment, dedication, and invaluable contributions of the Board’s workforce. The event also underscored the Lagos State Government’s sustained efforts to promote the welfare and recognition of its public servants both during and after service.
In his welcome address, the Board Secretary, Mr. Hakeem Lamidi, appreciated the retirees for their years of meritorious service, describing them as pillars of the basic education system whose sacrifices have shaped the success stories of State owned public primary schools. He noted that the ceremony was not merely a farewell but a celebration of purpose, impact, and legacy.
According to him, “Your collective experiences, wisdom, and dedication have been invaluable to our communities. You have not only enhanced academic excellence but also fostered a culture of inclusivity, innovation, and growth. As you transition to this new phase, we remain grateful for your commitment and for the memories and milestones you created in service to Lagos State.”
Delivering his keynote address, the Executive Chairman of LASUBEB, Dr. Hakeem Shittu, described the event as a testament to the Sanwo – Olu administration’s unwavering commitment to workers’ welfare. He commended the retirees for their loyalty, discipline, and resilience, noting that their contributions have strengthened the foundation of basic education in the State.
The Chairman, represented by the Board Member in charge of Teachers Pension, Mr. Owolabi Jamiu Falana, acknowledged that the initiative approved by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and institutionalized by the Office of the Head of Service reinforces government’s labour friendly policies and deep respect for public servants.
He remarked, “You stood at the frontline of transformation, serving as torchbearers of knowledge and discipline. Through your efforts, Lagos has built not just classrooms but character, not just schools but societies. Your legacy will continue to inspire the next generation.”
The Director, Post Service Unit, Public Service Office, Mrs. Bukonla Durodola, in her goodwill message, advised the retirees to embrace the realities of post service life. She urged them to spend prudently, maintain healthy lifestyles, and remain productive even in retirement.
Certificates of honour were presented to the retirees in recognition of their outstanding service to the State.
