To ensure a successful and credible conduct of the Placement Test for Primary Six (6) pupils in both public and private primary schools, the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) monitored the examination exercise held at designated centres across Lagos State.
The 2025 Placement Test, which serves as a transition assessment for pupils moving from primary to Junior Decondary School, was conducted on Saturday, July 26, 2025, across 549 centres, with a total of 210,465 pupils participating in the exercise.
The monitoring exercise was led by the Executive Chairman of LASUBEB, Dr. Hakeem Babatunde Shittu, alongside the Board Secretary and other officials of the Board who visited selected centres to assess the level of preparedness and compliance with the examination protocols, and the overall co-ordination at the centres.
Speaking during the monitoring exercise, Dr. Shittu reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to upholding the integrity of educational assessments in Lagos State. He stressed that the Placement Test is a significant benchmark in the pupils’ academic progression and must be conducted under a well-supervised and equitable process.
“Our presence here today as a Board is to ensure fairness, transparency, and strict adherence to examination standards. Every child deserves an equal opportunity to succeed, and this exercise is a demonstration of our dedication to that cause,” Dr. Shittu stated.
He added that to promote accuracy and integrity in the evaluation process, the examination was conducted using OMR (Optical Mark Recognition) answer sheets stating the adoption of technology ensures quick, error-free, and objective scoring of the tests.
“Despite the influx of unregistered pupils at some centres, every child was allowed to participate in the test, no one was turned away thus upholding our mantra of leave no child behind” he added.
He commended the efforts of education stakeholders including centre coordinators, head teachers, invigilators, and security personnel for their roles in ensuring a peaceful and orderly exercise across the state. He also extended appreciation to parents and guardians for their continued support, encouragement, and commitment to their children’s academic success.
One of the parents, Mrs. Vincent Adekemi, whose child attends Akinsemoyin Primary School, Eric Moore, Surulere, expressed satisfaction with the overall conduct and atmosphere of the test. She commended the State Government for organizing a well-coordinated examination.
However, she called for improvements in logistics, particularly in the timely delivery of question papers and answer sheets, noting that delays in some centres affected the time pupils had to complete their tests.
Schools monitored include: Lagos Island Tinubu; Methodist Primary School, Ebute Elefun Primary School, Holy Cross Catholic School, Victoria Island; Victoria Island Primary School, Federal Housing Estate Primary School, Awoyaya Primary School, Olomu Nursery and Primary School, Ajah Eti-Osa Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) and Akinsemoyin Primary School; Surulere(LGEA).
