Former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has officially commissioned the InnerCity Mission School, a 100% tuition-free educational facility established by Christ Embassy Church through the Chris Oyakhilome Foundation International (COFI).
The newly constructed school, located in the Kankan Estate area of Paynesville’s Baptist Seminary Community, is dedicated to serving children from underprivileged backgrounds.
Speaking at the inauguration, Madam Sirleaf hailed the initiative as a beacon of hope for the community and emphasized the importance of education in national development.
“This school is special,” she said. “Pastor Chris has extended his mission beyond the church. Education is key to our progress, and we all share the responsibility of maintaining this facility.”
The school is the 18th established by COFI across Africa and India. Pastor Omoh Alabi, Director of the InnerCity Mission for Children, explained that the project aims to address the educational gap among marginalized children in Liberia.
“Many children are excluded from school due to poverty. This school offers them a lifeline,” Pastor Alabi noted.
Pastor Ambrose Isesele, a senior leader in LoveWorld Incorporated and Regional Pastor of EWCA, added that the school’s mission is to provide inclusive and quality education to all children, coupled with spiritual guidance.
Also in attendance, Gender Minister Gbemie Horace-Kollie praised the initiative, stating that it complements the government’s “Save the Child” program, which targets support for vulnerable children.
The InnerCity Mission School stands as a significant step in expanding access to education and reshaping the future for Liberia’s disadvantaged youth.
