The Federal Government has condemned the deadly attack on Government Girls School, Maga, in Kebbi State, where armed assailants abducted several schoolgirls and killed the school’s Vice Principal.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Minister of Education, Chief Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa FAMedS, CON, described the incident as “heartbreaking” and extended condolences to the families of the victims, the school community, and the people of Kebbi State.
According to the Minister, the attack represents “a cruel and senseless act” that targets not only innocent students and educators but also threatens Nigeria’s future. He stressed that no parent should endure the trauma of having their child abducted, and no educator should lose their life for carrying out their duty.
Dr. Alausa stated that the Federal Ministry of Education is working closely with security and intelligence agencies, as well as the Kebbi State Government, to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted students and to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving security in schools, particularly in communities vulnerable to attacks. He said the tragic incident would only strengthen the nation’s resolve to safeguard learning environments across Nigeria.
“Our children deserve to learn in safety. Our teachers deserve to serve without fear,” Dr. Alausa said. “We will not relent until every school in Nigeria is a place of protection and hope.”
The statement was signed by Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education.
