The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has approved seven National Diploma (ND) programmes for the Kebbi State College of Health Sciences and Technology, Jega, marking a major academic milestone for the institution.
The accredited programmes include ND Public Health Technology, ND Environmental Health Technology, ND Community Health Technology, ND Health Information Management, ND Medical Laboratory Technology, ND Health Education and Promotion, as well as one additional approved programme.
Chairman of the Governing Council, Alhaji Magaji Abdullahi, announced the development in Birnin Kebbi on Friday, describing it as an “unprecedented moment” in the history of the college.
According to him, the approval followed a successful resource verification and advisory visit by NBTE in December 2025, clearing the institution to formally commence the programmes.
“This is an unprecedented moment in the history of Kebbi State College of Health Sciences and Technology, Jega, as we proudly announce the approval to commence seven National Diploma programmes from the National Board for Technical Education,” Abdullahi said.
He attributed the achievement to the support of Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, whom he commended for prioritising education and institutional development.
Abdullahi noted that the Governing Council worked assiduously to reposition the college for national recognition, bringing an end to what he described as an era when students were enrolled without assurance of graduating with nationally recognised certificates.
“With this approval, our graduates can now advance through Direct Entry into B.Sc. programmes or proceed to Higher National Diploma studies. This is a new chapter for our students and the state,” he added.
The council chairman emphasised the need for sustained diligence, urging the institution to recruit qualified staff, strengthen its organisational structure, and uphold standards required to secure future accreditations.
He described the NBTE approval as a legacy achievement for the current administration and a significant boost to health manpower development in Kebbi State.
