The Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has disbursed ₦1.32 billion in institutional student loans to 6,308 verified students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Lagos State.
The disbursement was confirmed in an official acknowledgement letter dated January 26, 2026, issued by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Folasade T. Ogunsola, to the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NELFUND, Mr Akintunde Sawyerr.
According to the letter, the funds were released under the Federal Government’s Students Loan Programme and credited to the university on January 19, 2026. The payment covers institutional fees for eligible and verified UNILAG students under the scheme.
A breakdown contained in the document shows that a total sum of ₦1,326,550,000 was disbursed to support 6,308 beneficiaries.
Professor Ogunsola, in the acknowledgement, expressed the university’s appreciation to NELFUND for its continued support in facilitating access to higher education for Nigerian students.
“We appreciate your continued support in facilitating access to education for our students,” the Vice-Chancellor stated.
The student loan scheme, implemented through NELFUND, is a key component of the Federal Government’s efforts to reduce financial barriers to tertiary education and expand access for students across public institutions nationwide.
UNILAG’s confirmation adds to the growing list of universities benefiting from the programme as loan disbursements continue across the country.
