Managing Director/Chief Executive of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) headquarters. The delegation was received by the NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, and his management team.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Sawyerr explained that the visit centered on a proposed collaboration between NELFUND and NYSC, aimed at facilitating loan repayment tracking for beneficiaries who are required to serve a mandatory one-year youth service before commencing repayment two years after receiving loans.
As part of the discussions, the NELFUND MD emphasized the importance of information exchange between the two agencies, using a unique identifier system to effectively track loanees during and after their service year.
Brigadier General Nafiu welcomed the initiative and suggested formalizing the partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to streamline the process. He commended NELFUND for enabling Nigerians to achieve their educational dreams and encouraged flexibility for loanees wishing to begin repayment immediately after completing their service. The NYSC DG also pledged to continue sensitizing and reminding corps members of their repayment obligations in line with the scheme.
The NELFUND delegation included Mr. Sola Fowobaje, Director of SERVICOM; Dr. Zino Ugboma, Director of Human Resources; Ms. Tosin Sanusi, Head of Investment; and Mrs. Verity Okwara, Head of ACTU.
The meeting marks a significant step toward strengthening collaboration between NELFUND and NYSC, ensuring that educational loans are efficiently managed and repayment compliance is monitored among Nigeria’s youth.
