The Niger State Government has commenced the selection process for its overseas scholarship program, an initiative spearheaded by Governor Umaru Bago.
The program aims to provide 1,000 students from public secondary schools with the opportunity to study abroad in fields such as Medicine, Engineering, ICT, and Agriculture. The selected beneficiaries will pursue their studies in Canada, China, India, and Brazil.
As part of the selection process, the state government has conducted rigorous examinations covering subjects including English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Civic Education.
The scholarships will be awarded strictly on merit, aligning with Governor Bago’s vision of supporting academically outstanding students regardless of their financial backgrounds.
Commissioner for Basic Education, Dr. Asabe Hadiza Mohammed, commended Governor Bago’s commitment to expanding educational opportunities.
She emphasized that the initiative would empower students to contribute meaningfully to the development of the state and the nation.
Similarly, the Director General of School and Educational Reforms, Maimuna Mohammed, assured that the examination standards were in line with national benchmarks.
She reiterated the government’s commitment to selecting the best candidates for the scholarship program.
The state government has conducted the scholarship examinations across various centers, and the results of the final selection process will be announced in due course.
