In a bold move to advance education and innovation in Nigeria, Africa’s foremost industrialist, Aliko Dangote, has pledged a N15 billion investment to the Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, Kano State.
The commitment was announced during the university’s 5th convocation ceremony, where Dangote—who was also reappointed as Chancellor—unveiled a five-year development blueprint to reposition the institution as a hub for cutting-edge research and skill development.
Speaking at the event, Dangote emphasized the need for the university to nurture problem-solvers and industry-ready professionals. “We envision this university producing highly skilled graduates who can meet the demands of industries and address real societal challenges,” he stated.
The N15bn pledge covers several transformative projects, including:
Construction of additional student hostels
A state-of-the-art engineering laboratory
A modern, multi-purpose computer lab with 24-hour internet access
Installation of a mini-solar power plant
A new Senate building for university administration
Beyond infrastructure, Dangote revealed that exceptional graduates in engineering and related fields would receive job placements at Dangote Group facilities, including the petroleum refinery and cement plants.
Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, lauded the initiative, describing Dangote as a visionary industrialist who continues to inspire national development through philanthropy.
Vice Chancellor, Prof. Musa Tukur Yakasa, noted that the university had graduated over 18,000 students in a decade and had achieved notable milestones in academic and research excellence. He cited the development of a mathematical digital model for deforestation monitoring by a university graduate, Mahmoud Mubarak, as a recent achievement.
Prominent figures such as Max Air founder Chief Arthur Eze, oil magnate Alhaji Dahiru Barau Mangal, and legal luminary Ahmad Adeniyi Raji were also honored with doctorate degrees during the ceremony.
Dangote concluded by reiterating that sustainable funding for higher education requires collaborative effort. Through his foundation, he also helped settle the institution’s electricity bills to ease financial pressure.
This gesture marks another milestone in Dangote’s long-standing legacy of supporting education, research, and youth empowerment across Africa.
