Nigeria: NPC Federal Commissioner, FUTA VC Restate Importance of Population Data

The National Population commission, Ondo state paid the management of the Federal University of Technology Akure a working courtesy on Tuesday 20th May 2025. The NPC team led by, Honorable Federal Commissioner, National Population Commission, Ondo State, Mrs. Olukemi Iyantan, stated that the duties of the commission are basically to collect, analyse and disseminate population data.

She said part of their responsibility is to advise the president on population matters, manage the national population policy and also provide data for planning and development.
Iyantan while expressing Admiration for the progress being made by FUTA s reiterated that the accomplishments of FUTA among comity of Universities in Nigeria cannot be over emphasized. According to her the need for NPC, Ondo State to partner with FUTA is very paramount as the commission can benefit a lot from the expertise of the erudite scholars in FUTA.She said, the purpose of the visit is to strengthen collaboration with the institution and to work out modalities that can benefit FUTA, NPC and Nigeria at large.

Responding the Vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, assured that FUTA by all means welcome the idea of a collaboration with the commission. The Vice Chancellor stated that the NPC is an integral part of nation building and FUTA would deploy its expertise to the advantage of the Commission whenever the need arises.
Professor Oladiji stated that population growth data collection is critical to national development , emphasizing that data and Statistics drive development , as nothing tangible can be achieved without it. She said FUTA in its capacity will help in training to strengthen the collaboration and ensure the growth of manpower development, for the benefit of the two institutions and the country at large.
