The Department of Microbiology, of The Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA has honoured, Professor Felix Akinyosoye a distinguished scholar who recently retired in the Department. As part of events to celebrate Akinyosoye a novelty match was organised to honour him.
Speaking at the event, the vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic, Professor Timothy Amos congratulated the celebrant and wished him success in his future endeavours. Professor Oladiji advised staff and student to take a Cue from the exemplary career service of professor Akinyosoye.She commended the Department for successfully organising the match and applauded the Student Union for ensuring that student participation was well recognised.
Responding, Professor Akinyosoye thanked the management, staff and students of Microbiology Department for the immense show of love towards him. He described the honour as deeply meaningful and a memorable highlight of his academic journey. He advised the students to be steadfast in all their endeavours saying “there is no shortcut anywhere to success, and that the only reward for hard work is more work.”
The novelty competition comprised of teams selected from 100 to 500L, the final was played on the 11th of February 2026 between 500L students AKA Microbian Lions and the 200l Students. After a very interesting and highly entertaining 90 minutes the Microbian Lions emerged victorious winning by 5 goals to 1.
