The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted approval for Ekiti State University (EKSU) to commence seven new academic programmes in full-time mode. The programmes were approved following a Resource Verification Visit conducted by NUC panels of experts in May 2025 to assess the university’s human and material resources.
According to a statement signed by Abubakar Girei, NUC’s Acting Director of Academic Planning, the approved programmes include:
– Mechatronics Engineering
– Agricultural Economics
– Agricultural Extension and Rural Development
Animal Science
– Crop Science
– Horticulture and Landscape Management
– Soil Science
The Vice Chancellor of EKSU, Professor Joseph Ayodele, described the approval as a significant milestone achieved through the relentless efforts of the academic and administrative staff. He appreciated the Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji; the Chancellor, Dr. Tunji Olowolafe; and the Pro-Chancellor, Prof. Akin Oyebode, for their commitment to growing the university.
With this development, prospective students can now apply for admission into these newly approved programmes starting from the 2025/2026 academic session. The university’s management expressed excitement over the approval, noting that it marks another major stride in the institution’s drive towards academic excellence.
