The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has urged employers to support corps members by providing transport refunds or personally picking them up from orientation camps. He also called for the provision of suitable accommodation or monetary compensation in its place to enhance service delivery.
The DG made the appeal during the 2025 NYSC/Corps Employers’ Workshop held in Bauchi. Represented by Agatha Banki, Director of NYSC Northeast Area Office 1, Nafiu emphasized the importance of strong partnerships between the NYSC and corps employers, noting that the workshop serves as a platform to address concerns and exchange ideas for improved collaboration.
“Workshops like these yield recommendations that shape the operations of the scheme,” he said, adding that corps employers are also expected to provide healthcare services, transport allowances, and a conducive work environment akin to what is available to permanent staff.
He charged participants to develop actionable solutions to enhance communication and resolve challenges facing corps administration.
Bauchi State NYSC Coordinator, Umoren Kufre, in his remarks, reiterated that the NYSC is committed to mutual growth. He stressed that meaningful partnerships with corps employers are crucial to empowering youth and addressing workforce needs.
This year’s workshop, themed “Strengthening NYSC/Corps Employers’ Partnership for Improved Mutual Benefit”, brought together stakeholders to explore best practices that enhance the scheme’s impact on national development.
