The Olofin of Isheri, Oba Sulaiman Bamgbade, has urged government agencies and key institutions to step up support for engineering technologists, saying they are vital to the country’s growth but often overlooked.
Speaking at the 2025 Annual General Meeting and Conference of the Nigerian Association of Technologists in Engineering, the monarch said technologists contribute significantly to industrial development, healthcare, and national progress, yet continue to work with limited recognition and inadequate resources.
In a statement from the Palace’s Office of Media and Publicity, Oba Bamgbade called for stronger investment in capacity building, standardised training, and better working conditions to empower the profession.
He noted that improved institutional support would boost national productivity and enhance Nigeria’s global competitiveness.
“The critical role of technologists in national development cannot be overemphasised,” he said. “If Nigeria must truly transform, we must invest in engineering capacity, uphold integrity in public projects, and prioritise innovation.”
While praising NATE for its commitment to advancing engineering technology, he pledged continued support for initiatives that promote innovation and sustainable growth.
At the event, Oba Bamgbade—who holds a degree in Civil Engineering and a Master’s in Systems Engineering—was honoured as a Fellow of the Association for his contributions to the profession and his leadership in both technical and traditional roles.
The federal government had earlier approved the Engineering Innovation Fund in 2024 to support advanced research, technology development, and innovative solutions in the sector.
The fund aims to strengthen local capacity and position Nigeria as a global engineering leader.
