Ilorin, April 24, 2025 — OPay, one of Nigeria’s top financial service providers, has extended its N1.2 billion, 10-year national scholarship program to Kwara State Polytechnic, making the institution the first polytechnic to benefit from the initiative.
The partnership, sealed during a formal MOU signing in Ilorin last week, will see 20 outstanding students receive scholarships worth N300,000 each. The move is part of OPay’s broader commitment to easing financial barriers to education and fostering youth development across Nigeria.
Speaking at the event, OPay’s MD/CEO, Dauda Gotring, emphasized the company’s long-term vision. “This scholarship is more than financial aid; it’s an investment in the dreams of Nigerian youth. We aim to empower a generation that will lead innovation and growth.”
The Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, Engr. Dr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, commended the gesture, noting its potential to motivate beneficiaries toward academic excellence.
OPay’s scholarship initiative is designed to support 400 students annually across Nigerian tertiary institutions. Since its inception, the program has expanded steadily, reflecting the company’s mission to ensure no student’s ambition is hindered by financial constraints.
Founded in 2018, OPay is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and insured by the NDIC. The company offers a wide range of digital financial services including payments, money transfers, and merchant support, aiming to drive financial inclusion across the country.
