Otti Pledges Full Support as Abia Prepares to Host 63rd WAEC National Council Meeting
Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has assured that the state is fully prepared to host the 63rd Nigeria National Committee Meeting of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
Speaking on Tuesday while receiving a delegation led by the Abia State WAEC Branch Controller, Mrs. Mary Chima, Otti described the selection of Abia as a great honour and a recognition of his administration’s commitment to education.
“We thank WAEC for the choice of Abia. We have received your letter and have already started making arrangements. I assure you that we will put everything in place to ensure a successful and memorable event,” Otti said.
He added that the decision to host the meeting in Abia reflects the education-friendly policies of his government and reaffirmed his resolve to further strengthen the sector.
The governor also directed the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Goodluck Ubochi, to reopen the recruitment portal for an additional 4,000 teachers to boost the state’s education workforce.
Earlier, Mrs. Chima announced that the 2025 WAEC Nigeria National Council Meeting will be held from November 17 to 21 in Umuahia.
She noted that Abia was chosen among the five Eastern states in recognition of Governor Otti’s dedication to educational excellence, discipline, and reform.
“The WAEC National Council Meeting is the council’s highest policy-making body in Nigeria. It brings together Commissioners of Education, Heads of WAEC Offices, and senior officials to deliberate on policies and make decisions that shape the nation’s education standards,” she explained.
Chima commended Abia’s consistent top performance in WAEC examinations nationwide, attributing it to the governor’s strong support and the state’s adherence to examination ethics.
