In a conversation with Edutimes Africa, 14-year-old Ighodalo Kelvin, a Senior Secondary One student at Abraham Seeds College, Lagos, shares how receiving a scholarship from the PAO Education Foundation has transformed his educational journey. From financial hardship to renewed hope, Kelvin’s story echoes the mission of the Foundation—to reach underserved children and help them realise their academic dreams. Kelvin, who lost his father some years ago, is one of the many pupils whose lives have been touched by the scholarship programme launched by the Pastor Abraham Olaluwoye Foundation. Here’s what he had to say:
Can you tell us your name, class, and the name of your school?
My name is Ighodalo Kelvin, and I’m currently in Senior Secondary One (SS1). I attend Abraham Seeds College, located at 9, Matanmi Street, off Kayode Street, Onipanu, Lagos.
How did you feel when you found out you had been selected for the PAO Education Foundation scholarship?
Honestly, I felt extremely excited! It was like a dream come true for me. After I lost my father some years back, I thought my chances of ever attending a good private school were over. Life became really hard for us, and I never imagined such an opportunity would come my way again. But God used the PAO Education Foundation to rewrite my story. I’m so grateful.
Before receiving the scholarship, what challenges did you and your family face in keeping you in school?
The major challenge was financial. My mum was doing her best, but her income couldn’t sustain the family, let alone cover my school fees and other educational needs. It was tough. Sometimes, I had to miss school or go without the proper materials. The stress was affecting both my studies and my confidence. But now, all of that has changed.
How has this scholarship changed your experience in school so far?
Since I got the scholarship, things have become much easier. I now have the right learning materials, and I don’t have to worry about fees or being sent home. I’m more focused in class and motivated to do my best. The environment at Abraham Seeds College is encouraging, and the teachers are very supportive.
What are your favourite subjects, and what do you hope to become in the future?
My favourite subjects are English Language and Literature in English. I love reading and understanding how words are used to express ideas. In the future, I want to become a lawyer. I want to defend people’s rights and stand for justice—just like people are standing for me now.
What would you like to say to the people and organisations supporting this scholarship programme?
My prayer for everyone supporting the PAO Education Foundation is that God will prosper them in all they do. May He continue to enrich their lives, their businesses, and even their bank accounts. They have made a big difference in my life, and I believe God will reward them greatly. Thank you for choosing to help children like me.
What advice would you give to other children who are struggling or losing hope about education?
My advice is simple: stay focused. Don’t give up, no matter how hard it gets. Your situation today doesn’t define your future. Keep working hard and trust that help will come. Also, don’t relent in pursuing your career goals. Education is the key.
Do you have any words about Pastor Abraham Olaluwoye?
Yes, I do. Pastor Abraham is not just a man of God—he is a man with a genuine heart for people. He cares for the needy in all aspects of life and wants to see children like me succeed. I truly thank God for his life. God bless Pastor Abraham Olaluwoye. God bless the PAO Education Foundation.
The PAO Education Foundation, in partnership with Abraham Seeds International School, continues to provide scholarships to students like Kelvin through its Three-Year Scholarship Award Programme.
