The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has expressed deep appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his administration’s commitment to educational reform, particularly the recent approval allowing full-time Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates to participate in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.
Describing the policy shift as a landmark achievement, NAPS emphasized that it underscores the government’s dedication to equity, inclusivity, and the advancement of polytechnic education in Nigeria.
Acknowledging Key Stakeholders
The NAPS National President, Comrade Eshiofune Paul Oghayan, lauded the efforts of the Minister of Education, Dr. Mamud Olatunji Alausa, the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), and other key agencies for their roles in making this policy a reality.
He commended Dr. Alausa’s proactive leadership and commitment to addressing the concerns of polytechnic students, acknowledging that his dedication—alongside collaborative efforts from stakeholders—led to this long-awaited breakthrough.
“Today, we celebrate the triumph of persistence, advocacy, and an unwavering commitment to student welfare,” Oghayan stated.
Guidelines for Students
NAPS also extended gratitude to all government bodies, educational agencies, and individuals who contributed to the policy’s success. Special recognition was given to NBTE for ensuring a smooth mobilization process, as well as to polytechnic rectors and other education stakeholders for their support.
However, the association strongly advised students to strictly follow NYSC’s mobilization guidelines to avoid complications.
“Students must carefully adhere to these guidelines when making academic choices, as their decisions will directly affect their NYSC eligibility. NAPS will not be held responsible for issues arising from non-compliance,” Oghayan warned.
A Call to Action
“As we mark this significant victory, we urge all eligible full-time HND graduates to take full advantage of this opportunity and proceed with their mobilization immediately,” he added.
Oghayan reaffirmed NAPS’ dedication to championing the interests of polytechnic students across Nigeria, stating that this achievement highlights the power of collective advocacy in driving meaningful educational reforms.
