President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially signed into law the establishment of the **Federal University of Environment and Technology, Ogori, Rivers State, marking a significant step in Nigeria’s commitment to environmental sustainability and technological advancement.
The announcement was made today by Dr. Tunji Alausa, Minister of Education, who emphasised the strategic national importance** of the institution.
“This university is particularly crucial given its focus on environmental Studies and Technology. Located in Tai Ogoni, an area severely affected by oil exploration and environmental degradation, the university will serve as a centre of excellence for research, innovation, and capacity development in these critical fields,” Dr. Alausa stated.
The minister also reiterated the government’s commitment to finding homegrown solutions to Nigeria’s challenges.
“We have the power to solve our own problems. As Nigerians, we are capable of making our country work for us. Under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, we are committed to turning this vision into reality,” he said.
The establishment of this institution is expected to enhance research efforts in environmental protection, sustainable development, and technological innovation, particularly in the Niger Delta region, where oil exploration has caused significant ecological damage.
Experts in the education and environmental sectors have welcomed the development, noting that it will not only provide academic opportunities but also contribute to policy-making and environmental restoration efforts in the region.
