Students of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), Port Harcourt, can now pursue their studies with less financial worry, thanks to the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
The university management has expressed gratitude to NELFUND for easing the burden on students through the national student loan scheme, which has supported over 5,000 IAUE students in the 2024/2025 academic session.
Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Okechuku Onuchuku, said the intervention has brought “renewed hope” to students who once struggled to pay fees and stay in school.
“This initiative has motivated our students to continue their education without financial stress. We appreciate NELFUND’s professionalism and the Federal Government’s commitment to inclusive education,” he said.
The university disclosed that 2,946 students benefited in Batch One, 145 in Batch Two, while 45 are being processed in Batches Three and Four.
Registration for the 2025/2026 academic session has begun, and students have been advised to complete their application on the NELFUND portal (portal.nelf.gov.ng) before January 26, 2026.
To make the process easier, the university’s ICT Centre has set up a help desk and will send personalized registration guidance to students via email and SMS.
Prof. Onuchuku reaffirmed IAUE’s commitment to working closely with NELFUND and the Federal Government to expand access to education for all.
Meanwhile, Rivers State Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral (rtd.) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, recently inaugurated new governing councils for four state-owned tertiary institutions, including IAUE. He urged the councils to strengthen leadership, ensure accountability, and make education a true driver of social and economic growth in the state.
