Sule Lamido University, Kafin Hausa, Jigawa State, will confer First Class Honours on 154 students at its 2nd Combined Convocation Ceremony scheduled for Saturday.
The Vice-Chancellor, Muhammad Yakasai, disclosed this during a pre-convocation press briefing held at the university’s Senate Building.
According to him, the institution will graduate 4,109 students across six academic sessions, including 154 First Class, 1,326 Second Class Upper, 1,954 Second Class Lower, 649 Third Class, and 26 Pass degrees.
Yakasai noted that the university has recorded significant progress in its academic programmes, including the introduction of postgraduate studies and the restructuring of the School of Preliminary Studies into the School of Preliminary and Continuing Education.
He added that the institution has expanded its infrastructure with the construction of academic facilities, hostels, a modern library, and research centres.
“Solar energy solutions and ICT development are also being implemented to enhance efficiency on campus,” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor stated that staff and student welfare remain a priority, with initiatives such as subsidised transportation and accommodation in place.
He acknowledged the support of the Jigawa State Government and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund in the university’s growth, noting that several disbursements from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund have benefited students.
Yakasai also revealed plans to establish a College of Medicine to expand the university’s academic offerings and contribute to the healthcare sector.
He said the proposed college is expected to produce skilled medical professionals to meet societal needs.
The Vice-Chancellor added that ongoing infrastructure development has transformed the campus with modern lecture halls, laboratories, and a well-equipped library to support effective teaching and learning.
He, however, appealed for additional support from the Jigawa State Government, particularly in staffing and accommodation, to sustain quality education and research.
