President Cyril Ramaphosa has removed Dr. Nobuhle Nkabane as Minister of Higher Education and Training, appointing Buti Manamela to replace her. Manamela, previously the deputy minister, takes over amid allegations of corruption surrounding the appointments of Sector Education and Training Authorities (Seta) board chairpersons.
According to the Presidency, Ramaphosa appointed Manamela in terms of Section 91 (2) of the Constitution. Dr. Nomusa Dube-Ncube has been appointed as the new deputy minister, bringing her extensive government leadership experience to the role.
Manamela’s appointment comes as the Ministry of Higher Education and Training faces scrutiny over Seta board appointments, which included ANC members. The change in leadership is expected to impact the department’s direction and policies.
