Following EduTimes Africa’s early report on her federal appointment, Dr Tola Salau has now officially assumed duties as the Special Adviser on STEMM Education and Corporate Sector Engagement to Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, CON.
In her first public statement since taking office, Dr Salau described the position as an opportunity to champion equitable access to quality education through Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine (STEMM).
“Last week, I officially assumed duties…,” she announced, adding that she had already participated in her first official engagement alongside the Minister at the inauguration of the Governing Council and Principal Officers of the Federal University of Environment and Technology, Koroma/Saakpenwa, Rivers State.
She pledged to complement the Federal Government’s efforts to expand STEMM capacity, address technological challenges shaping Nigeria’s future, and create pathways for students to compete and lead globally. Her mission, she said, is to “drive transformative STEMM policies, forge robust partnerships with the corporate sector, and create pathways that empower Nigerian students to compete and lead globally.”
Dr Salau acknowledged that the role demands “vision, bold action, and relentless execution” and expressed full commitment to delivering on all fronts.
Her assumption of duty marks a significant step in the government’s renewed push for innovation-driven education policies in Nigeria.
