Convener of the world’s largest teachers’ conference, Mr Oluwaseyi Anifowose, has said Nigerian teachers deserve better recognition and appreciation for their role in nation-building.
Anifowose, who spoke at the ongoing conference holding at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, on Saturday, described quality education as the “backbone of every nation” and stressed that such education could only be delivered by quality teachers.
“The experiences I had when I started my career as a teacher many years ago inspired this event,” he told our correspondent.
He lamented that teachers remained an indispensable group in society but continued to face crises that undermined their relevance as stakeholders in the country’s development.
“This initiative is to create awareness on the need for teachers to be celebrated, recognised, and appreciated,” Anifowose added.
The conference, attended by thousands of educators from across the country, is set to break the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of teachers.
