What informed the decision to open an office in Nigeria?
Our decision to open a liaison office in Nigeria was driven by the growing demand from our Nigerian clients. By having a presence in Nigeria, we can better support clients before they travel to the UK, providing services such as pre-arrival health consultations, guidance on accessing our concierge service, wellness checks and continuity of care. The Nigerian office strengthens our ability to build trust, offer convenience and deliver culturally tailored care to our Nigerian clients
Has having a presence here in Nigeria now, presented the organisation with new opportunities at all?
While we recognize the importance of healthcare delivery in sub-Saharan Africa and Nigeria in particular, we have been presented with opportunities and challenges, of which our focus is to build from the ground up on specific entry points, i.e. healthcare data, genomic analysis and mapping which are key to future healthcare delivery etc.
What would you say is MHF’s unique selling point?
We bring cultural awareness to healthcare, especially around African lifestyles and health beliefs. It’s about listening, respecting their perspective and offering care that feels personal and appropriate to patients.
MHF has been in operation in the UK for about 11 years now. How well has it been received?
Over the years, our clinic has been warmly received and has grown steadily. Patients value our GP and specialist services, diagnostics, and personalised approach to healthcare. Our ability to cater to a diverse range of needs has been a key strength. We have built a loyal client base, particularly among the general public and Nigerian visitors to the UK who appreciate our services.
Is MHF strictly Nigeria focused or Africa focused in terms of its clientele base?
Not at all. While we have a strong client base among Nigerians, especially through our concierge services and international student support, our clinic serves the general UK public as well. Our focus is on delivering high-quality healthcare to everyone, but we have also tailored some services to meet the unique needs of specific groups, such as our African clients, to ensure inclusivity and accessibility for all.
What is MHF’s flagship service?
All our services are flagship offerings. Our Wellness Packages offer screens and advice that help our clients stay on top of their health. Our concierge service gives access to top doctors, specialists, healthcare facilities across the globe, and our specialist clinics offer expert medical attention. With BHIS, (Basic Healthcare for Internatioal Students) students are able to to bypass their GP long waiting times and receive bespoke healthcare services and pastoral support.
Why do you think many wealthy Nigerians still prefer to receive medical treatment abroad? Especially in the UK?
The UK is regarded as a reliable destination for world-class healthcare due to its advanced medical treatments and superior infrastructure compared to what is available here in Nigeria.v For many Nigerians, the UK represents a sense of security and reassurance, with access to top specialists and top-notch facilities. This trust in the quality of care appeals to wealthy Nigerians seeking the best treatment for themselves and their families.
