UNICAL VC Pledges Ethical, Fraud-Free Admission Process
The newly appointed Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Offiong Offiong, has pledged to restore integrity to the institution’s admission system by ending racketeering and fraudulent NYSC mobilization.
Prof. Offiong made this commitment on Monday during his investiture as the 12th Vice Chancellor of the university. He said his administration would prioritise innovation, excellence, accountability, and a renewed sense of purpose among students and staff.
“With unwavering dedication and a collaborative spirit, I am confident that we will achieve greatness and become a beacon of hope, inspiration, and progress for generations to come,” he said. “I invite everyone to join me so we can write the next great chapter in UNICAL’s history.”
He announced zero tolerance for indiscipline, stressing that the Central Admissions Committee would be immediately reactivated to ensure full compliance with JAMB guidelines.
According to him, the university’s reputation has suffered long enough.
“For too long, UNICAL has been in the news for the wrong reasons. That ends now. No one should feel ashamed to say they are a student or staff of this institution,” he said, calling on members of the community to offer constructive contributions toward rebuilding the university.
The new VC urged students to pursue academic excellence, assuring them of a conducive environment to maximise their potential. He promised to lead with integrity, transparency, and a listening ear.
“I will be a servant leader for the entire university community. The next five years will eliminate conditions that enable extortion and other abuses. It will not be business as usual. There will be no sacred cows,” he stated.
