The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has announced the commencement of applications for admission into its School of Foundation Studies for the 2026/2027 academic session.
The programme, formerly known as Foundation Programmes, offers qualified candidates an alternative pathway to gain admission into 200-level degree programmes through the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB).
According to the university, candidates who successfully complete the one-year programme and meet the required standards may be considered for Direct Entry admission into UNILAG and other partner institutions within and outside Nigeria.
The university stated that the programme also provides opportunities for admission into several international universities, including the University of Bedfordshire, University of Central Lancashire, University of the West of England, De Montfort University, University of Birmingham, University of Nottingham, University of Surrey, University of Salford, University of Aberdeen, University of Dundee, and Soochow University in China.
UNILAG noted that the School of Foundation Studies offers a wide range of subject combinations across the arts, social sciences, management sciences, and sciences, designed to prepare students for their preferred degree programmes.
To be eligible for admission, applicants must possess a minimum of five credits, including English Language and Mathematics, as well as three other relevant subjects obtained in one sitting in WAEC, NECO, GCE, or equivalent examinations.
The institution disclosed that application forms will be available from May 25, 2026, while the application portal will close on August 21, 2026. The application fee is ₦35,000, excluding bank charges.
The entrance examination is scheduled to hold on September 5, 2026, at the Distance Learning Institute (DLI) and the Adetokunbo Babatunde Sofoluwe Centre for Information Technology and Systems (ABS-CITS), University of Lagos.
The examination will be computer-based and consist of 85 multiple-choice questions covering English Language, Mathematics, and three other subjects relevant to the candidate’s chosen combination. Candidates will have 45 minutes to complete the test.
UNILAG emphasised that admission into its undergraduate programmes remains subject to approved admission quotas and programme capacities. The institution warned that success in the JUPEB examination does not automatically guarantee admission into a candidate’s preferred course of study.
The university also reiterated its zero-tolerance policy on drug abuse, sexual harassment, cultism, cybercrime, examination malpractice, indecent dressing, and other forms of anti-social behaviour.
