The University of Lagos (UNILAG) continued its maiden Registry Week celebration on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, with a full day of activities focused on financial literacy, health awareness, and staff engagement.
Seminar on Financial Literacy
The day began with a seminar on Financial Literacy held at the Senate Chamber, Senate House, where participants were exposed to practical insights on effective money management and investment.
Welcoming staff members to the session, the Registrar and Host, Mrs. Victoria Wickliffe, commended members of the UNILAG Registry for their professionalism, unity, and dedication to excellence since the commencement of the celebration.
Guest Speaker, Mr. Oluremi Tinuolu-Gabriel, Director of Retail and Digital Financial Services at United Capital PLC, emphasized the importance of fiscal discipline and consistent savings. He cautioned against poor financial habits such as procrastination, impulsive spending, and unplanned purchases, while encouraging prudent investment practices and long-term financial planning.
The University Bursar, Mrs. Oluwafunmilola Adekunle, commended the initiative, describing it as a valuable platform to promote staff well-being and financial empowerment.
Medical Outreach
Following the seminar, activities shifted to the UNILAG Sports Complex, where a comprehensive medical outreach took place. The exercise, which was open to both registry and non-registry staff, offered free medical consultations, vital checks, oral health education, and distribution of oral care products.
The Registrar, Mrs. Wickliffe, officially flagged off the exercise and participated in the health screening, underscoring the university’s commitment to promoting the wellness of its workforce.
Games and Recreation
The Sports Complex also hosted a lively Games Day, featuring dance competitions, board games, track races, and a friendly football match. Staff members took time to unwind and bond, with winners receiving medals and souvenirs in recognition of their participation.
The Registry Week celebration will climax on Thursday, November 6, 2025, with a public lecture titled “Excellence in University Administration: The Imperatives of Professionalism and Digital Literacy”, scheduled to hold at the Nurudeen Alao Auditorium, Distance Learning Institute (DLI), UNILAG.
The weeklong event, which began with an awareness walk on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, aims to strengthen camaraderie and professionalism among members of the UNILAG Registry and reinforce the values of efficiency, innovation, and service excellence within the university system.
