A nursing student of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), earlier reported missing, has been found in the custody of the Nigeria Police Force after five days.
The update was made public on Tuesday by social media user Akinola Olanrewaju, popularly known as @bigblarry on X (formerly Twitter), who initially raised the alarm over the student’s disappearance.
According to Olanrewaju, the student had been detained by the police without access to her phone or any form of communication throughout the period.
“She has been found in police custody. The Nigeria Police held her for five days without granting her access to a phone or any means of communication. What kind of system is this?” he wrote.
The student was declared missing after she reportedly left home on January 22, triggering widespread concern and multiple appeals on social media. Another user, @Yemihazan, had earlier circulated a missing-person notice, calling on the public to assist with information on her whereabouts.
“Missing person ❗ Please RT. A nursing student of UNILORIN has been missing since January 22. If anyone has seen her or has useful information, please help,” the post read.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Police Force has not issued any official statement clarifying the circumstances surrounding the student’s arrest, her prolonged detention, or the allegation that she was denied access to communication.
The incident has since sparked public outrage online, with many Nigerians calling for accountability and respect for citizens’ rights.
