Outrage as Viral Video Shows Students Assaulting Female Peer in Benue
A viral video showing a group of female students stripping and assaulting a fellow student has sparked widespread outrage across Nigeria, with calls for urgent action from authorities.
The disturbing footage, which surfaced on social media on Monday, captures at least five girls in school uniforms physically attacking the victim, leaving her struggling to cover herself while being humiliated.
The incident is reported to have occurred in Benue State, although the identity of the school involved has not yet been officially confirmed.
In the video, the attackers are seen laughing and dragging the victim while she tries to shield herself. A male student is also visible observing the incident without intervening, while another individual records the assault.
The footage has triggered strong reactions online, with many Nigerians condemning the act and demanding justice for the victim. Several users have called on the Benue State Government, the police, and relevant agencies to investigate the incident and hold those responsible accountable.
Some commentators described the act as a reflection of deeper issues within the education system, including poor supervision, declining moral standards, and the growing trend of bullying among students.
Others emphasised the need for stricter disciplinary measures, including legal consequences, to deter similar incidents in schools.
The incident adds to a series of recent bullying cases reported in Nigerian schools. Earlier in March, authorities in Edo State ordered action against students involved in a separate viral case of physical assault, while a previous incident at a school in Abuja also drew national attention after a student was repeatedly attacked by a peer.
Observers say the recurrence of such cases highlights the urgent need for stronger safeguarding policies, improved student welfare systems, and increased accountability within school environments.
As of the time of filing this report, relevant authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
