The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has temporarily suspended access to the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for school candidates due to technical issues discovered during an internal review.
In a press release signed by Moyosola Adesina, Acting Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, the examination body disclosed that the technical glitch arose from the implementation of a new paper serialization process aimed at curbing examination malpractice.
According to WAEC, the serialization — which was applied to core subjects such as Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics — was introduced in line with international best practices to enhance assessment credibility. However, internal post-release checks uncovered technical bugs that affected the accuracy of the released results.
“The Council, being a responsive body that is sensitive to fairness and professionalism, has decided to urgently review and correct the technical glitches that led to the situation,” the statement read in part.
As a result, access to the 2025 WASSCE results has been suspended on the online result-checking portal for a 24-hour period. WAEC has advised candidates who had previously checked their results to revisit the portal after the review window to confirm the accuracy of their scores.
The Council extended apologies to affected candidates, parents, and other stakeholders, appealing for patience as it works to rectify the issue with transparency and urgency.
“We appreciate their patience and understanding as we work diligently to resolve this matter… Candidates who have previously checked their results are advised to re-check after 24 hours from now,” the release added.
WAEC reiterated its commitment to upholding excellence, fairness, and transparency in all assessment processes, assuring the public of its continued integrity and dedication to quality service delivery.
The technical issues and subsequent result portal downtime come at a crucial time for many school leavers who are preparing for tertiary education admissions.
The Council promised to complete the review process within 24 hours and restore full access to the result portal.
