Dr. Limbani Nsapato, a renowned education advocate and Executive Director of Link For Education Governance (LEG), has expressed disappointment with the Malawi Congress Party’s (MCP) 2025 manifesto, citing gaps in education pledges and lack of strategies to achieve key expectations.
Nsapato described the education manifesto as “incomplete and unachievable” within five years, accusing the party of not prioritizing education pledges. He noted that the manifesto lacks a fully-fledged chapter on education, instead scattering key priorities throughout the document.
While MCP has pledged to improve education, Nsapato highlighted missing critical components, including:
– Learning outcomes
– Inclusiveness
– Teacher motivation
– Sector-wide governance
He also questioned the realism of some promises, citing the absence of:
– Clear targets for improving foundational learning
– Adult literacy campaigns
– Plans to improve teaching profession attractiveness
– Mental health and leadership support, especially for women
– Indicators, implementation roadmap, and education budget
Nsapato’s concerns come ahead of the September 16 general election, with MCP promising to expand access to quality education, replace grass-thatched schools, and provide loans for low-income university students.
