The Federal Government has restated its promise to give more attention to quality education for girls, saying it is an important step toward building a better nation.
Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sai’d Ahmed, made this known yesterday in Abuja during the 2025 International Day of the Girl-Child celebration.
The event was organised by the Ministry of Education in partnership with the Adolescent Girls’ Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project and other key partners.
Prof. Ahmed, who was represented by the Director of Senior Secondary Education, Binta Abulkadir, said the ministry has begun putting into action the National Policy on Gender in Basic Education. The policy seeks to remove the gap between boys and girls in access to education and to give every child equal opportunity to learn and grow.
In her remarks, the National Coordinator of the AGILE Project, Amina Haruna, said this year’s celebration is meant to encourage global action, investment, and support for the empowerment of girls.
Meanwhile, telecom company Globacom, through its Glo Foundation, also joined the celebration by hosting hundreds of schoolgirls from different parts of the country to a symbolic walk and movie outing.
About 100 girls from five secondary schools in Lagos were welcomed at Globacom’s head office, Mike Adenuga Towers, Victoria Island, where they were inspired by senior female executives of the company.
The girls were urged to dream big, stay focused, and aim for excellence in whatever career they choose.
Globacom’s Director of Strategy and Board Affairs, Mojisola Ashieru Sweet, advised them to be proud of who they are and to stay confident that success comes with hard work.
Also, the company’s Head of Human Resources, Jumoke Aduwo, encouraged the girls to build a strong character and never give up on their goals.
