The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Prof. Adenike Oladiji, has announced that over 3,000 students of the institution have benefited from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) scheme.
Speaking at a press briefing ahead of FUTA’s 36th Convocation Ceremony, Oladiji described the Federal Government’s loan initiative as a major relief for students, noting that it has eased the financial burden of tuition and living costs for many.
> “As we speak, over 3,000 students have benefited from the NELFUND scheme,” she said. “We are encouraging more students to apply. The portal has been reopened, and our staff are assisting students with guidance and documentation.”
The Vice Chancellor explained that despite government efforts, awareness and perception remain major barriers to full participation.
“Many students are hesitant because they see schooling on credit as a burden. The issue isn’t government commitment, but limited awareness and willingness to apply,” she added.
Commending Tinubu’s Education Policy
Oladiji praised President Bola Tinubu for launching NELFUND, calling it a “landmark policy” that promotes inclusiveness and access to tertiary education.
She reaffirmed FUTA’s commitment to supporting initiatives that enhance student welfare and academic excellence.
36th Convocation Highlights
FUTA will graduate 2,747 students, including 240 First Class holders. A total of 1,479 will graduate with Second Class (Upper Division), 912 with Second Class (Lower Division), and 116 with Third Class honours.
The Overall Best Graduating Student is Akindunbi Aduragbemi Isaac from the Department of Civil Engineering, who achieved a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.98/5.0.
In the postgraduate category, 867 higher degrees will be awarded — comprising 86 Postgraduate Diplomas, 627 Master’s degrees, and 154 PhDs.
“FUTA continues to live up to its reputation as a leading research-intensive university and a foremost citadel of excellence in technological education,” Oladiji said.
