The International Community School opened its doors to students on September 21, 1998, with a vision to provide international education to both Nigerians and expatriates living in Nigeria. The school began with 8 students, 3 teachers (one of whom was Mrs. Jan Okpanachi, the first Head of School), one teaching assistant, and 2 security guards who also acted as cleaners. Since then, the school has grown and now has over 600 students from about 35 countries, 60 teachers, 30 teaching assistants, and over 200 employees in total.
International Community School, Abuja, is an American curriculum school and is accredited by the Middle States Association (MSA), The Council of International Schools (CIS), and the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA Education Secretariat). ICS offers various activities to enrich the learning experiences of students and other members of the ICS community. These activities include the International Children’s Day Celebration, Christmas Program, Science Fair, Poetry Café, and Pi Day. At ICS, we are intentional about addressing global issues through our Global Citizenship Education program, striving to empower our students to make a significant difference in global challenges.
In 2023, ICS celebrated a milestone, its silver jubilee anniversary. The 25th Anniversary Celebration kicked off on Friday, October 27, 2023, with a Praise and Worship evening and culminated in a dinner for parents on Saturday, November 4, 2023. Numerous activities for students throughout the week made it a fun and exciting time for them. God has abundantly blessed ICS, and we took the time to express our gratitude and celebrate His goodness over the entire ICS community. Here are some pictures from our anniversary week for your viewing pleasure.
