Tottenham and Manchester City Enter Race for Cody Gakpo as Liverpool Transfer Stance Emerges

Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City have reportedly entered a transfer battle for Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo, with the Dutch international emerging as one of the players to watch before the summer transfer window closes.

Tottenham have been pursuing Gakpo for several weeks and have already agreed personal terms with the 27-year-old, according to multiple reports. Spurs are now seeking to reach an agreement with Liverpool over a potential transfer.

However, Tottenham’s pursuit has been complicated by fresh interest from Manchester City. Reports on Monday, August 24, indicate that City’s representatives have made contact with Gakpo’s camp to discuss the possibility of bringing the Netherlands international to the Etihad.

Tottenham remain active in negotiations and are understood to have made Gakpo one of their priority attacking targets. The London club are also working on deals involving Manchester City winger Savinho and forward Omar Marmoush as they look to strengthen Roberto De Zerbi’s squad before the deadline.

Liverpool’s position could ultimately determine Gakpo’s next destination. The Reds are reportedly reluctant to sell the Dutchman unless they can sign two new wingers, with Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola among their major targets.

Gakpo’s situation has attracted increasing attention after he scored for Liverpool in their Premier League opener against Newcastle United on Sunday. Liverpool eventually drew 2–2 at St James’ Park.

With Tottenham already having personal terms in place and Manchester City now making contact with the player’s representatives, the race for Gakpo could become one of the major stories of the final days of the transfer window.

For now, Tottenham remain in the race, Manchester City have entered the conversation, and Liverpool’s recruitment plans could hold the key to whether Gakpo is allowed to leave Anfield.
