The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has commenced the processing of admissions for the 2026/2027 academic session, with tertiary institutions using the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) to process candidates for admission.
CAPS is JAMB’s centralised platform for managing admissions into Nigerian tertiary institutions. The system allows institutions to process candidates while giving applicants access to information about their admission status and available choices.
The development means candidates who participated in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry exercise should continue monitoring their JAMB profiles and CAPS accounts for admission updates.
JAMB had earlier approved the minimum tolerable admission scores for the 2026/2027 session.
Candidates seeking admission into universities and Colleges of Nursing are required to have a minimum score of 150, while the minimum benchmark for polytechnics, monotechnics, colleges of agriculture, colleges of education and Innovation Enterprise Institutions is 100.
However, meeting the minimum benchmark does not automatically guarantee admission. Candidates must also satisfy the requirements of their chosen institutions and programmes, including any applicable Post-UTME screening requirements.
JAMB’s CAPS was designed to address challenges associated with the manual admission process, improve transparency, eliminate multiple admissions and give candidates greater access to information about their admission choices.
Candidates are therefore advised to regularly check their JAMB profiles and CAPS admission status and respond appropriately whenever an admission offer is made.
The Board has also advised candidates to rely on its official platforms for admission information and avoid individuals or websites claiming they can influence or guarantee admission.
JAMB continues to publish official updates through its website and bulletins as the 2026/2027 admission exercise progresses.
