Not everyone has plans for the Independence Day holiday. Some people will be attending events, while others will simply be at home.
If you’re staying indoors this October 1, you can still make the day enjoyable. Here are seven things you can do:
1. Watch a Nigerian Movie
Pick a Nigerian movie you have been meaning to watch. Better still, revisit an old Nollywood classic and enjoy it with your family or friends.
2. Cook Your Favourite Nigerian Meal
Independence Day is a good excuse to prepare that Nigerian meal you love. From jollof rice and fried rice to pounded yam, beans or your favourite local dish, make something you’ll enjoy.
3. Create an Independence Day Playlist
Put together your favourite Nigerian songs and enjoy music from different generations. You could even turn it into a mini family or friends’ sing-along.
4. Play Games With Family or Friends
Bring out the Ludo, cards, Monopoly or any other game you enjoy. You don’t need to go anywhere to have a good time.
5. Catch Up With Family
Use the holiday to call, chat with or spend time with family members. Sometimes, a simple conversation is all you need to make the day memorable.
6. Learn Something New About Nigeria
Take some time to explore Nigeria’s history, culture, languages, food or interesting places. You might discover something about the country you didn’t know before.
7. Relax and Recharge
If school has been stressful, use the public holiday to rest. Sleep, watch something, listen to music or simply take some time away from your usual routine.
You don’t need an elaborate plan to enjoy Independence Day. Sometimes, staying home, eating good food and spending time with people you care about is enough.
