The Federal Government has disbursed ₦38.93 billion to 166 public tertiary institutions across Nigeria to address infrastructure gaps and improve teaching and learning facilities.
The disbursement was announced in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by Efe Ovuakporie, Head of Media at the Federal Ministry of Finance, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.
The funding was released under the Needs Assessment Revitalisation Fund, which supports improvements in public tertiary institutions.
The beneficiary institutions comprise 79 universities, 46 polytechnics and 41 colleges of education, covering different levels of Nigeria’s public higher education system.
According to the statement, universities will receive ₦28.5 billion, while polytechnics have been allocated ₦5.8 billion. Colleges of education will receive ₦4.7 billion.
The intervention is also expected to support the implementation of agreed measures under the Memorandum of Understanding between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
The government said the funds would enable beneficiary institutions to begin or continue approved projects addressing critical infrastructure deficiencies and other identified institutional needs.
Ovuakporie emphasised the importance of coordination among government agencies and the beneficiary institutions to ensure that the funding produces tangible improvements in educational infrastructure.
Members of the public seeking information about individual institutions and their allocations were directed to the Federal Ministry of Finance’s website.
The disbursement comes amid continuing discussions about funding, infrastructure and the quality of teaching and learning in Nigeria’s public tertiary institutions.
