The Federal Government has approved a monthly transport allowance of ₦70,000 for Nigerian workers across all levels for six months, beginning in November 2026.
The measure is aimed at cushioning the impact of rising living costs and providing additional support for workers’ welfare.
The agreement was reached on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, during a conciliation meeting between the Federal Government and the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Abuja.
The government also approved the payment of peculiar allowance arrears effective from May 1, 2026. The arrears will be paid in three equal monthly instalments beginning in November.
Both parties further agreed to constitute a Minimum Wage Negotiation Committee and commence meetings immediately, although they reportedly disagreed over the effective date of implementation.
The approved transport allowance is expected to provide temporary financial relief to workers as households continue to face economic pressures.
