Two key scholarships are available for outstanding PhD candidates at the University of Birmingham: the ESRC Midlands Doctoral Training Programme (DTP) Scholarships and the Birmingham Business School Doctoral Scholarships.
1. ESRC Midlands Doctoral Training Programme (DTP) Scholarships
The University of Birmingham is a member of the Midlands Graduate School Doctoral Training Programme (DTP), in collaboration with other leading institutions such as Warwick, Aston, Leicester, Loughborough, and Nottingham. The ESRC Midlands DTP Scholarships offer financial support to students pursuing a PhD starting in September 2025.

- Complete the MGS Studentship Application form, with assistance from two identified supervisors.

2. Birmingham Business School Doctoral Scholarships
The Birmingham Business School Doctoral Scholarships are awarded to candidates with exceptional academic merit, focusing on areas such as Accounting, Finance, Management, Marketing, and Strategy & International Business.
Eligibility:
- A minimum 2:1 undergraduate degree (preferably first-class honors).
- A strong Master’s degree in Business or a related subject, ideally with distinction.
- Academic references that highlight significant research potential.
- UK students are particularly encouraged to apply.
Selection Criteria:
- Academic achievements and preparedness for PhD study.
- Quality and relevance of the research proposal.
- Potential to contribute to innovative research within Birmingham Business School’s research areas.

How to Apply for Birmingham Business School Doctoral Scholarships
Candidates must first secure an offer of a PhD place at Birmingham Business School.
- PhD Application Deadline: 9th December 2024.
- Scholarship Application Deadline: Midday, Tuesday, 21st January 2025.
