The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has affirmed that candidates are permitted to sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) anywhere in Nigeria, regardless of their state of registration.
This clarification was issued to counter a misleading report suggesting otherwise. In a statement on Wednesday, JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, dismissed the claim as false and potentially misleading for candidates preparing for the exam.
“In a recent interview with a NAN reporter, I clarified that candidates are not restricted to taking the examination within their state of registration,” said Benjamin.
He stressed that candidates have the liberty to register from any part of the country and select any examination town nationwide, according to their preference.
JAMB organizes Computer-Based Test centres by towns to ensure accessibility and convenience, and candidates are allowed to choose any location best suited to them.
“For example, if a candidate selects Garki as their examination town, they must take the exam there. They cannot be posted to a different town,” he explained.
JAMB emphasized the need to dispel the misinformation to prevent confusion and anxiety among candidates, especially those choosing centres outside their registration state.
“To be clear, candidates who have registered for the UTME and selected examination towns outside their state of registration are fully permitted to sit for the exam in their chosen locations,” Benjamin reiterated.
He concluded by urging the public to disregard the inaccurate report and reassured candidates of JAMB’s commitment to flexibility, transparency, and candidate-friendly policies.
