Highly reputable Dansol Primary School, I was glad to discover, catches them young. It was indeed a great honour to be invited as Guest Speaker to the launching of the 4th edition of The Ready Writer, a beautiful publication which the school’s evidently gifted pupils, produced all the content for. I am not at all ashamed to admit that I learned a few new things myself.
My late father was fond of telling anyone who cared to listen that there were few things that gave him as much joy as when he learned something new from his children. And this was when we were still children! To start with, it meant he hadn’t been wasting his money paying school fees…which must have been some consolation…Lol. But in addition, it was a reminder that he didn’t know it all and that everyone has value, no matter that person’s age or circumstance. Lastly, he appreciated a child’s fresh, oftentimes creative and sometimes brutally honest perspective.
