The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, has mandated the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor and Principal Officers of the Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences, Abeokuta (FUMMSA), to ensure the institution admits its first students by September.
Speaking at the inauguration of Principal Officers for NABTEB, UBEC, and FUMMSA, the Minister emphasized the need for collaboration with key regulatory bodies such as JAMB and NUC to facilitate a seamless admissions process. This directive was confirmed in a statement issued by the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Boriowo Folsade.
Dr. Alausa urged the Vice-Chancellor to leverage their expertise in laying a strong foundation for the university, ensuring that essential infrastructure is in place. He also highlighted the importance of aligning FUMMSA’s academic programs with national and global healthcare needs, particularly in fields such as medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and dentistry.
Other newly appointed officials include Dr. Mohammed Aminu as Registrar of NABTEB, Tunde Ajibulu as Deputy Executive Secretary (Service) of UBEC, and Olajuwon Akinyebi as Deputy Executive Secretary (Technical) of UBEC.
The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding access to quality education and strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare workforce. He also underscored ongoing reforms in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and the integration of new appointees into Nigeria’s evolving vocational education framework.
Commending President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, Dr. Alausa emphasized the administration’s dedication to fostering an enabling environment for public service.
In response, FUMMSA Vice-Chancellor, Professor Fatiu Arogundade, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and pledged to uphold integrity, transparency, and excellence. He assured the government of his commitment to establishing a strong educational legacy.
