Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr Ayman Ashour, has met with the President of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), Professor Jan Danckaert, in Brussels to explore avenues for academic and research collaboration.
During the meeting, both parties discussed enhancing partnerships between VUB and Egyptian universities through joint academic programmes, collaborative research initiatives, student exchange schemes, and faculty partnerships.
Dr Ashour emphasised the importance of deepening academic ties with Belgian institutions as part of Egypt’s wider strategy to strengthen its relationships with European universities.
He also referenced the recent visit of the French President to Cairo, which led to the signing of 42 cooperation agreements with Egyptian universities—highlighting a growing momentum in European-Egyptian academic collaboration.
Additionally, the Minister outlined the key objectives of Egypt’s National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research 2030.
He stressed the importance of regional alliances and the integration of education with industry to support the country’s sustainable development goals.
