An alleged letter from the American University of Nigeria, Kano (MAAUN), demanding N750,000 for “Intent to Graduate and Clearance Process,” has caused uproar among students and parents. The fee was reportedly linked to receiving final results, participating in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), and attending graduation.
The memo, dated November 18, 2025, and signed by Dr. Hassan Garba, Vice President of Campus Life, urged students to pay the amount and complete clearance forms by November 30, 2025, warning that failure could delay their results, NYSC mobilisation, and graduation.
Parents expressed shock at the alleged demand. Dr. Abubakar Dahiru Mohammed said: “Once students finish their studies and pay tuition, it is their right to get results. Withholding certificates to force payment is wrong and amounts to extortion.”
However, the university denied issuing the letter, calling it a “fabrication” aimed at tarnishing the institution’s image. Spokesperson Ali Kakaki said: “The management confirmed that the document did not originate from the university and is being circulated on social media by individuals with ill intentions.”
Students and parents are now relieved but remain cautious as the story circulates online.
