The Federal Government has approved a special intervention fund of N1 billion for the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) to strengthen its agricultural commercial farm.
In a letter to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Arc. Sonny Echono, said the allocation followed the approval of the 2025 intervention budget by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He stated that the fund was part of the government’s commitment to supporting tertiary institutions in advancing food production and agricultural innovation.
Reacting to the development, Prof. Oladiji expressed deep appreciation to President Tinubu for recognizing FUTA’s efforts in addressing food insecurity.
“This allocation is a further testament to FUTA’s relevance in tackling food insecurity,” she said. “Our vegetable production centre is ready to guide farmers on improved species of bell pepper and tomatoes developed on our teaching and research farm. We’ve also expanded our palm tree plantation and are building more greenhouses. This fund will give a huge boost to our commercial farming activities.”
She assured that the funds would be used judiciously and promised that FUTA would not disappoint the confidence reposed in it.
