The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has dismissed reports alleging an increase in its registration fees, describing the claim as false, misleading and entirely unfounded.
In a statement signed by its Public Communication Adviser, Fabian Benjamin, Ph.D., the Board clarified that the approved registration fees remain unchanged.
According to JAMB, the current fees are as follows: Direct Entry (DE) – ₦5,700; UTME only (without mock) – ₦7,200; and UTME with mock – ₦8,700.
The Board provided a breakdown of the charges: Application Fee – ₦3,500; Reading Text – ₦1,000; CBT Centre Registration Service Charge – ₦700; CBT Centre UTME Service Charge – ₦1,500; Bank Charges – ₦500; and CBT Mock-UTME Centre Charge – ₦1,500.
JAMB noted that these fees have remained unchanged since 2019. It recalled that in 2018, the Federal Executive Council approved a reduction of the UTME application fee from ₦5,000 to ₦3,500, which took effect from the 2019 registration exercise. Since then, the Board has maintained the same structure despite rising operational costs.
The examination body urged prospective candidates, parents and guardians to disregard the publication in circulation and rely solely on information released through its verified platforms and official advertisements.
Candidates were also advised to carefully read the Board’s official advertisement to avoid being misled or exploited by dishonest individuals or centres.
Furthermore, JAMB appealed to any candidate who may have paid above the approved fees to report such centres with credible evidence, assuring that appropriate disciplinary action would be taken against any centre found guilty of overcharging or sharp practices.
The Board reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and the protection of candidates’ interests.
